When they got down to the stronghold, Steve felt a pain of regret. He knew Alex had always wanted to do this, but he wasn't so sure.

Tal led the friends to the portal room. All twelve eyes of ender were places in the slots. The portal glowed a gloomy purple color. "Here you are, kids," the old villager said. "Good luck."
Good luck? Tal never said that, at least not to Steve and Alex. Something was really wrong with the villager today. Maybe a witch splashed him with a "nice potion." If that was a thing.
Alex tugged at Steve's arm. "C'mon," she said. Steve looked up. "Oh, sorry," he replied.
The friends jumped through the portal. Steve felt dizzy. Not the kind where your head spins and you have trouble seeing things clearly. A different kind, something he couldn't describe. When he opened his eyes, he thought someone had painted a picture of the end right in front of him. He looked around. Fuzzy purple sky. Baige island.
